Programme of Events

May 2010 Open Fly-in.
This will involve up to 60 aircraft visiting for a social gathering. There will be a 2 hour gap in flying in the middle of the day, and the total flying time will remain within the 0830-2100 time frame. Visitors will be welcome to the airfield, refreshments will be available.

26th June 2010 Beagle Pup and Bulldog fly-in
This will involve a maximum of 60 aircraft- dependent on local authority consent to vary condition 2 of planning conditions. These aircraft were used as a military training aircraft, and are one of the last British designed to be used. Visitors will be welcome to the airfield, refreshments will be available.

25th July 2010 Vintage Piper Aircraft Fly-in
This event is the second time the Vintage Piper Aircraft have visited the airfield. Last years’ visit was a great success, and we are pleased to see the club return.
Numbers of aircraft will depend both on weather, and local authority consents, but will not exceed 60. Flying hours will be as with the May event.
Visitors are welcome to the airfield, and refreshments will be available.

28th August 2010 Vintage Air Club Fly-in
This event is also the second time that the airfield has hosted a fly-in for the Vintage Aircraft Club. Last year saw some historic aircraft land, despite the less than favourable wind conditions. It will present a great opportunity to see historic aircraft on the ground, in the setting reminiscent of the time when many of the aircraft were built. Visitors should try not to miss this opportunity, and will be very welcome at the airfield. Refreshments will be available. Flying hours and aircraft numbers will be as with the previous events.

Following the success of the Royal Aero Club Air Race week end, it is proposed that there will be another race week end in 2011. Forward planning is already under way to allow time to secure sponsorship for the event, and to enable the District to put in place the necessary arrangements to maximise on the economic benefits which the event will bring to the area. It is intended that for next year the management of publicity will be under my personal supervision to ensure that the local residents are fully informed, and that the opportunities for local participation are fully promoted. Great Oakley Parish Council will receive more information about this, and any other events planned for 2011 as it becomes available.

It is hoped that local residents will make full use of the opportunities to visit the airfield, and see a wide range of aircraft through the summer. Visitors are also welcome at other times with prior arrangement.
Safety considerations dictate that children visiting the airfield must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
